2004 Tikal Patriota unique, delicious red blend made from Bonarda and Malbec out of Mendoza, Argentina
A blend of Malbec and Bonarda, Tikal’s Patriota highlights just how well these somewhat obscure varietals have done in Argentina outside of their native France and Italy. Both varietals make up the backbone of Argentina’s red wine production and although we are just now acknowledging Malbec from Argentina in our market, Bonarda is still off the radar screen for most people. Here the combo works magnificently, bringing forth a fuller bodied wine, fruit forward, with intense blackberry and plum flavors that hits on all cylinders and fills every crevice in the mouth. If you like them big and intense, yet in balance with a dry finish, then this will be a tasty surprise.

(malbec and bonarda) Deep red-ruby. Primary, grapey nose hints at medicinal black cherry and licorice, with an exotic suggestion of marmalade. Sweet, fat, round and smooth, but currently showing only moderate complexity. This relies as much on its rather firm acidity as its soft tannins for shape and structure
