This is a joint venture between the Chaptoutier family of northern Rhone fame and the Terlato Wine Group based out of the United States. The coming together and forming of the partnership is a story of legend but the settling on the Pyrenees region of Western Victoria state for making wine was a simple decision, the perfect place with the soil and terroir to make world class wine. Considered a somewhat cooler climate region, the wines produced here have definitive cool climate sheen to them, with of course exceptional Australian fruit generosity and richness as well as a great sense of place.
The 2006 Terelato Chapoutier Shiraz Viognier shows lots of aromatic complexity offering savory, meaty notes underscored with hints of talc, violets and tar, scorched earth, highlighted and lifted with some distinctive stone fruit and cherry fruit on the nose. Fuller bodied and quite supple with a plump engaging texture and slippery tannins, this is loaded with a core of black cherry blackberry fruit flavors and a hint of licorice richness.
