Unwooded Chardonnay can be a dicey proposition more often than not.
Most don’t quite cut it as they lack that extra oomph and nuance to make them interesting. When we recently tried the Te Awa ‘Left Field’ Chardonnay we new we had a winner. Juicy with a slight creaminess that gives it suppleness and roundness to its texture, the fruit works along clean lines without big scale. Showcasing peach, yellow apple and citrus fruit there’s a light spice note and enough of the requisite acidity to keep this fresh and lively. This is a perfect match for seafood and lighter fare.
