This is nice intro for someone who hasn’t had much exposure to the wines of South Africa, it’s got enough ripeness, with an amalgam of soft red and darker red berry fruits, with a nice complimentary mocha spice note on the nose, the tannins are light, but with enough firmness for structure, with the light oak component giving some roundness to the palate. Medium fuller bodied this has nice fruit definition. This plays the Old World/New World paradigm perfectly, it’s got the fruit ripeness, and alcohol, that gives it suppleness to its mouth feel, yet it’s not about upfront fruit, it’s more refined and made for food.
A bit clinched and tight in its current youthful stage this should evolve nicely over the next 2-3 years, gaining extra mid palate weight and flavor nuance.
