94 pts Robert Parker, Jr. The Wine Advocate
Amber brown with flavors of intertwined dates, figs, and chocolate. It is well balanced and has a long, pure finish. The winery remains one of the quality leaders in the production of sweet wines from the warm terroir of Rutherglen. Moreover, the wines cannot be duplicated anywhere else in the world.
93 pts The International Wine Review June 2011 This is a deep, delicious fortified, solera style moderately sweet wine showing dark plum and cherry, chocolate, and cara_mel. The palate is complex and lush, and the finish is very, very long. Made from Shiraz and Grenache. An extreme value on a unique wine!
90 pts Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar Sept. 2011 (JR) Bright red with an amber rim. Candied raspberry, plum jam, redcurrant and roasted nuts on the nose, plus a kick of peppery spice. Densely packed and sweet, with spicy flavors of strawberry preserves, cherry and rose enlivened by tangy acidity. Finishes quite ripe and sweet, with velvety texture and a spicy nuance. |
Winemaker Notes |
Winemaker: Richard Buller
Maturation in old oak casks for many years has changed this wine from bright red to the tawny hues it exhibits today. With this slow transformation in colour has come also a change in flavour to the complex, rich and satisfying characters of a mature tawny. This wine is blended from stocks of many vintages held at our Rutherglen cellars. With blending we aim to provide a balance between the 'rancio' characters of an old wine and the freshness of younger wines.
Cellaring Recommendations: Fully matured when released and ready for immediate consumption. |
