Tasting
Notes |
|
Stephen Brook, UK Wine Judge, Tasting Notes: "Deep brown with an orange rim. On the nose, lashings of toffee, figs, cream and Thai fish sauce. On the palate, the texture was simply sumptuous. Pure velvet. Intense acidity without any trace of astringency. Honey, figs, toffee; superb balanced acidity on the palate. Exceptional length and remarkably clean finish. Nothing sticky about this wine. I'm embarrassed and reluctant to score anything 20/20 but this is the complete expression of the fruit from this old vineyard. It just couldn't be any finer. Hats off! My score 20." |

94 pts Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar Sept, 2011 Amber with a greenish rim. Plum preserves, dried cherry, orange peel, cola and molasses on the enticingly perfumed nose. Smoky, sweet and velvety, offering a wild array of sweet pit fruit, spice and floral pastille flavors. Shows firm backbone and finishes with outstanding power, depth and length. This wine's blend of exotically sweet fruits and spices is pretty compelling.
100pts Robert Parker, Jr., The Wine Advocate, #155 10/25/04 "Boasts colossal aromatics and flavors of melted caramels, coffee, toffee, candied fruits marinated in cognac, magnificent richness, and a huge finish that lasts over 70 seconds."

Winemaker Notes |
Winemaker: Andrew Buller
This wine is a stablemate to the Rutherglen Rare Liqueur Muscat but made from a different grape. The variety used is Muscadelle, for which Australia has adopted the synonym 'Tokay'. I am grateful to my father and grandfather who had the foresight to put down blending stocks of the best vintages of past years.
Cellaring Recommendations: This wine is aged in cask at the winery prior to bottling and will not improve with further cellaring.
Fruit: Tokay (Muscadelle). |
