Mt Billy Antiquity Shiraz a rich, velvety textured Shiraz made from vines 80-100 yrs old out of the Barossa Valley
Tasting
Notes
6/9/10
This is ripe and concentrated yet still retaining the acid balance that the vintage brought. 2002 was one of the longest on record, allowing the grapes to have fully ripened flavors yet possessing the acidity for good aging potential as well as freshness.
Even at 8 years old this is holding steady. The nose offers up an amalgam of intriguing notes, ripe darker red fruit is accentuated with notes of chocolate, olive and lavender spice. The palate is medium-fuller to fuller bodied and layered with a mouth coating, velvety suppleness from the ripe fruit (dark cherries and plum with some chocolate coming up through) and soft tannins, yet there is good acidity that keeps it the fruit lively. Drinking beautifully now this still has several years of excellent drinking a head of it.
