87 pts. Wine Enthusiast. (12/31/2006) full bodied with ripe, spicy blackberry fruit out of Wellington, South Africa
Tasting
Notes
Colour: An almost impenetrable black to a rich red at the edge.
Nose: Concentrated black berry fruit with careful use of wood to enhance the already rich spicy aromas.
Palate: Full flavours of blackberry and spice with hints of black pepper. The ripe tannins and firm structure and full flavours with its long dry finish help to make this the polished wine it is.
Comments: The balance and complexity of this wine will further reward good cellaring for another at least two years before it reached its peak. Drink before mid 2011.
Food
Accompaniments

87 pts. Wine Enthusiast. (12/31/2006) "There’s a bit of a bubble gum quality to the full fruit flavors, but aside from that this wine shows lots of promise. Graham cracker spices up a fruity nose of cassis and crushed grapes, while the flavors are as purple as the color. A bit tart in acid with tannins on the chalky side. "
Winemaker Notes
Grapes were hand picked, crushed into open fermenter where they were cold soaked for five days, then during fermentation punched down by hand six times a day. Skins gently pressed and racked into barrels for twelve months with one racking at six months then given a light filter pre-bottling.
