($12) Deep ruby. Smoky cherry and dark berries on the nose, complicated by notes of singed plum and vanilla. Brighter red fruits emerge on the palate, which shows an appealing silkiness and a hint of bitter herbs. The bitter note lingers on the nicely persistent, slightly firm finish. I like this wine's Old World character and it's also a solid value.
