Kanonkop Cabernet Sauvignon 2008 simply beautiful, with good aging potential

Kanonkop makes great red wines and this just released 2008 Cabernet is another stellar effort. This has a lovely perfume lift to the nose, delicate and subtle as it may be on first opening. Notes of cocoa powder mesh with cedar spice and hint of loam/earth and a slight touch of mint over black berry fruit and dark currant aromatically. Medium fuller bodied, on opening this is sleekly textured almost slippery but with aeration it fleshes out, but more importantly the tannins are finer grained allowing the backbone of acidity to keep the fruit amazingly fresh and vibrant. Elegant and poised this speaks of great pedigree and should develop beautifully over the next 8-10 years.
