Errazuriz

Errazuriz 'Wild Ferment' Chardonnay 2009

Errazuriz 'Wild Ferment' Chardonnay 2009 a real crowd pleaser

Tasting Notes

5/29/11
The nose offers up a toasty, wood spice lift that quickly unfolds into an assortment of aromas, evoking notes of orange blossom, pear, yellow apple and pineapple. Although rich in flavor and having a nice fleshy texture, this isn’t big in weight with notes of citrus fruit and white orchard tree fruit enlivened with riper tropical notes and a toasty, spice note on the finish. This has lively acidity that gives it freshness and focus on its nicely detailed finish. This should drink nicely over the next year or two.

Awards, Reviews and other Notes

90 pts Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, May/June 2011
Bright yellow-gold. A wild, highly perfumed bouquet evokes dried pear, orange, iodine and toasty lees. The palate offers sappy, densely packed orchard fruits along with suave spice and floral nuances. A note of toasted grain comes up with air and lingers on the long, focused finish. This rich, fleshy wine would be great with a buttery fish or chicken dish.

Fresh, with tasty yellow apple, fig and pear flavors that stay focused through the toast-tinged finish. A crowd pleaser. Drink now.
88 pts Wine Enthusiast Feb 2011
The bouquet blends tropical aromas with popcorn, and the palate is toasty as well, but not cloying or thick. Flavors of green banana, orange, melon and pineapple are spicy and zesty, and there’s pineapple and woodspice to the finish. A natural-yeast Chard with balance and zest to go along with tropical sweetness.
91 pts Wine Advocate Issue #199 Feb 2012
The 2009 Chardonnay Wild Ferment was fermented (as the name implies) with native yeasts and aged sur lie in 20% new French oak with batonnage. It offers up a surprisingly sophisticated bouquet of buttered popcorn, melon, white fruits, and hazel nuts leading to a creamy-textured, intensely flavored wine with impeccable balance and length. It is an outstanding value that over-delivers in a big way.
