Culley Pinot Noir 2007

2007 Culley Pinot Noir excellent wine for the money

Tasting Notes

3/18/08
Not big in color or body this carries surprising fruit intensity and flavor This is a classic example illustrating that a wine doesn’t necessarily have to be big and concentrated to have personality, which is why Pinot Noir has such appeal. This plays into the feminine, refined side, which is what one would expect, especially in light of its pricing. What many Pinot Noir at this price won’t give you is the engaging fruit which this offers, as well as more depth of flavor. The nose is very primary with a peppery edge to the red stone fruits- red cherry and red plum, followed with a faint hint of cinnamon spice touched up with the slightest suggestion of stemmy, earth tones that add an extra dimension to the fruit aromatically. The nose is quite lovely with good vibrancy and lift showcasing a combo of both savory tones and sweet fruit notes. The palate has a soft, silky entry, medium to medium fuller bodied, and sleeker, ripe tannins with just enough grip to focus the generous, spicy red plum and cherry fruit flavors. Maybe not made for extended aging which the price indicates, this should really deliver a lot of drinking pleasure and show well over the next couple of years. A pretty Pinot with a nice fruit profile; deals like this are becoming harder to find.
