Good medium-deep ruby. Aromas of blackberry, black pepper and licorice; a bit less porty than the Stark example. Then more suave and juicy in the mouth, with better definition to its dark berry, black cherry and menthol flavors. A more savory, pliant wine with a restrained oakiness. Finishes vinous and ripely tannic, with good length and aromatic persistence. 88 pts Wine Spectator 12/31/06
