A blend of Malbec (40%), Cabernet Sauvignon (30%) and Merlot (30%), respectively the visuals offer up a deep, light capturing purple color with violet hues. The nose has an engaging perfumed lift, with notes of violets and baking spices kissed with a touch of vanilla that flow seamlessly into the dark stone fruit notes of cherry and plum along with dark red currant notes aromatically. Fuller bodied with riper, sleek tannins that gives the wine a supple textural feel, this has a core of juicy, dark sweet fruit on entry with a slight savory note on the finish that adds some intrigue and complexity. Quite user friendly but possessing enough supporting structure to balance out the potpourri of dark and darker red fruit flavors this is showing beautifully as we speak and should offer up a lot of pleasure over the next 4-5 years quite easily. For the price this is an exceptional bottle of wine.

Clos de Chacras’s 2008 Cavas de Crianza is a blend of 40% Malbec, 30% Merlot, and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from a 40-year-old vineyard and aged for 12 months in second-use French and American oak. Purple in color with a pleasing perfume of cedar, spice box, earth notes, violets, black cherry, and black currant, on the palate it is full-bodied, muscular, and sweetly-fruited. It reveals plenty of power but remains light on its feet with good balance and a lengthy, pure finish. Give it 2-3 years to further unwind and drink it through 2023. |
