Catamayor Tannat Cabernet Franc 2008 from Bodegas Castillo Viejo out of San Jose Uruguay

Wines out of Uruguay have slowly been trickling into our market over the past couple of years. Most have more of an Old World slant to them and this blend, with the requisite Tannat leading the way, is more savory and earth toned than fruit forward. Medium bodied with powdery, firmer tannins there’s a touch of cocoa powder and dried herb to the red and darker currant fruit, with a slight spicy note giving lift as well. This is just now starting to open up and screams out for something grilled with a little bit of fat content to it.
