Boulder Bank Pinot Noir 2008 made by Nick Goldschmidt - impressive Marlborough Pinot for the money

Nick Goldschimdt is a multi talented winemaker with the ability to wear many different hats. His new Kiwi venture, Boulder Bay, has allowed him to try his hand at Pinot Noir (as well at a pretty impressive Sauvignon Blanc as well) and from what we have experienced with his 2008 release of Boulder Bay Pinot Noir, it is quite apparent he has got a good idea on how to handle the grape. Medium to medium fuller bodied, lower alcohol, with lifted floral character to the bright red stone fruits - cherry and plum, along with a sleek, suppleness to the texture, this offers a lovely engaging quality that speaks highly of the varietal and the talent to let it be what it should be, instead of a more heavy handed interventionist approach.
