As with all Cape blends, Pinotage leads the way, which is quite evident on the nose. Think of the Pinotage’s smokiness, then some iron, mineral notes along with dark plum, dark berry fruit to the fore, with toast notes and red currant with a touch of peppery spice as well. The palate is supple with well integrated, ripe tannins giving a nice grip on the finish to the red and darker red fruit flavors. This is showing well now and screams out for something that is grilled or broiled, with a moderate amount of fat content.
