Everybody needs a few go to wines where you can pull out something that is not only good but it won’t hurt the pocket; in these economic times more so now than ever. People still want to enjoy wine but they want value without sacrificing quality.
The 2009 Apaltagua Reserve Pinot Noir out of the Curaco Valley of Central Chile is impressive for not only its quality but also its exceptional value. Here you get a Pinot that hits the sweet spot in terms of pricing, where it can be your everyday go to wine with the flavor profile to make it work with an assortment of food offerings or even on its own. The fruit is vibrant and lifted with good precession to its flavors with enough focus and depth to keep you engaged.
There’s a nice lift to the nose that shows good youthful brightness and vibrancy with a slightly stemmy, smokiness to the assorted red berry notes aromatically. Medium bodied with red cherry, raspberry, cranberry fruit flavors the fruit is vibrant and edgy with a touch of spice on the warm finish. All things said and done you may be able to find better Pinot Noir, but in terms of price and over quality this would be hard to beat by anyone’s standards.
