Amalaya 2008 from Bodega Colome - a blend of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Tannat and Syrah
Tasting
Notes
3/5/10
From the high elevation Calchaqui Vally of the Salta region in northwest Argentina, the 2008 Amalaya is a blend of 75% of Argentina’s signature red grape, Malbec, rounded out with Cabernet Sauvignon, Tannat and Syrah. The nose offers an intriguing floral component along with a peppery, slightly smoky element that melds harmoniously into the black raspberry and denser dark berry tones aromatically. Medium-fuller to fuller bodied the palate is loaded up with a core of vibrant, juicy fruit - raspberries and dark red fruits, with some spicy, earth tones kicking in on the dry finish. The tannins are finer grained and ripe making this ready to enjoy right out the gate. This has the structure for to work with grilled meats and slightly spicy dishes.
