Allandale 'Matthew' Shiraz 2007 impressive and an outstanding value

Notes
5/4/10
Made in a more restrained style, in terms of weight and textural feel with the likes of South Australia and the warmer environs of Victoria, this Hunter Valley Shiraz still is abundantly endowed and quite fresh and bright in its fruit and flavor profile. It seems that here the concept was to make a wine that would be vibrant and fresh with the fruit, tannin and acid balance for good mid term aging, along with having the structure to work with a plethora of food options, which isn’t always the case with certain Aussie Shiraz styles. The nose offers up initial sweet coconut aromas, from the American oak aging, which quickly gets absorbed into the spicy dark berry and dark plum fruit aromas. Medium fuller to fuller bodied the texture is sleek, offering juicy dark berry, blackberry and plum fruit flavors, with the wood deftly integrated into the fruit, giving the wine an engaging tannin, fruit balance. Bright and fresh with a lively inner mouth synergy and vibrancy to the fruit, the dark red berry and plum flavors are touched with a spice note on the lingering finish. This has the acidity and brighter pitch to the fruit that gives this exceptional food diversity. Outstanding value.

Bright, clear crimson-purple; a high-flavoured and lively wine, with intense blackberry and plum fruit offset by very well integrated American oak and balanced acidity; excellent development potential. Value +. Screwcap. 14% alc. Rating 94 To 2022
